Satun is a province in the southern part of Thailand (on the coast of the Strait of Malacca). The word Satun comes from the Malay word Satul (ستول), which means “Santol”, a type of fruit that is abundant in this area. The name of the city, Negeri Setul Mambang Segara (Malay: Negeri Setul Mambang Segara; Jawi script: نڬري ستول ممبڠ سڬارا; Negeri Setul Mambang Segara) means “Satun, City of the Deva Ocean”. Therefore, the Deva Ocean Seal has become the seal or symbol of the province to this day.
