SDEKAN019: BEYOND THE HISTORY OF THE DEATH RAILWAY

08.30AM Pick up guests from Kanchanaburi town, and proceed to Ban Kao National Museum.

09.00AM Reach a stunningly renovated Ban Kao National Museum offers visitors an enjoyable learning discovery experience in its simple but splendidly beautiful 3-storey building in the enchanting landscape composed of farmland and ranges of small hills. Secluded peacefully by the infamous Kwae Noi River, the museum is located in a small village in the countryside of Kanchanaburi where prehistoric artefacts were discovered by a Dutch archaeologist who was forced to come to the province as a prisoner of war during WWII.

Though it is still little known by a few tourists, Ban Kao village settlement or Ban Kao Culture has gained a world-class recognition as Thailand's first archaeological excavation site that significantly contributes to both national and international study of prehistoric archaeology. An array of these artefacts date back to stone ages or some thousand years ago. The exhibition and information is presented through multimedia that makes the learning experience more accessible and enjoyable for visitors of any age. The presentation is in both Thai and English.

Do not forget to enjoy the countryside scenery on a terrace overlooking the River Kwai winding down at the back of the museum. Take a moment to embrace its quietness & serenity before leaving! The whole place is wheelchair accessible.
