Phen District is a small district in Udon Thani province. The villagers here are quite strict in following customs and traditions that have been held for a long time which ranges from January to December, such as the fifth month of Songkran, the sixth month of Bun Bang Fai, the eighth month of Buddhist Lent, etc. Even though the way of life has changed from the past but it can still be seen today. In addition, Amphoe Phen, there is also Phra That Nang Phen which is loved and believed by the people in Phen district it is believed that more than 100 years ago Pen princess, who was the daughter of the King of Muang Pen she is so beautiful that it is widely known make the princes of various cities they raised their armies to fight and if the governor of Pen doesn’t give him his daughter will raise an army to attack the city. When Pen princess know of the incident, she had her father dig a deep hole and jump into the hole to commit suicide and had King’s Phen build a relic to cover the hole so it will be possible to stop the war that will happen to the country. From this incident, the people of the city of Pen still remember the sacrifice of princess Pen to this day. And in every festival or local tradition, the villagers come to pay their respects.
